The Camelot wheel numbers the circle of fifths 1-12, with B for major keys and A for their relative minors. Tracks mix smoothly into the same code, one number up or down (same letter), or the same number with the other letter (relative major/minor). 8B is C major; 8A is A minor.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Camelot wheel?

A DJ-friendly relabelling of the circle of fifths: each key gets a code from 1 to 12 plus A (minor) or B (major). Neighbouring codes share most of their notes, so mixing between them sounds harmonic.

Which keys can I mix together?

From any track: stay on the same code, move one number up or down with the same letter, or flip the letter at the same number (relative major/minor). From 8B (C major): 7B, 9B and 8A all work.

Does the +1 direction change the energy?

DJs describe +1 (clockwise) as lifting the energy and -1 as calming it. The +2 jump is a stronger lift that still shares enough notes to work on many tracks.
