It is a real Unicode character that renders as nothing — for example a Zero-Width Space (U+200B). It counts as text, so it can fill fields that reject a normal blank space.
Blank usernames or display names, ‘empty’ messages or captions, bypassing ‘this field is required’ spacing, or aligning text where a normal space gets trimmed.
That's the point — it's invisible. Paste it where you need it; the characters are there even though nothing shows.
