Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between white, pink and brown noise?

White noise has equal power across all frequencies and sounds bright, like static. Pink noise rolls off the highs so it sounds more balanced and natural (like steady rain). Brown noise has even more bass and sounds deep, like a waterfall or distant surf.

What is noise good for?

Many people use it to focus, fall asleep, mask tinnitus, or cover distracting background sounds in an office or shared space. Pink and brown are popular for sleep; white is common for masking.

Is the audio a file I am streaming?

No. The noise is generated live in your browser with the Web Audio API, so there is no download, no file and nothing is uploaded. The optional timer stops it automatically.
